Hi! Thanks so much for checking out my blog. So…who am I, what do I want from your life and what the hell is so special about what I have to say that you should read yet another blog? (That is assuming you read other blogs on a regular basis). My name is Jennifer Giuffre-Donohue. Yes, I’m a hyphenator, because Giuffre (pronounced joo-fray) isn’t difficult enough for people to say so I thought I’d add another seven letters to my name.
I’m 40 years old and a stay at home mom but I also work part time from home. Here’s my story. It all started because I love to write and I constantly have ideas coming to me about the craziness of our world and how I find the humor in all of it (well ok, in most of it). Writing has always been an outlet for me as well as most of the creative arts. I love to sing, I love music in general. I love to dance and act also, in fact I met my husband in acting class. Neither one of us have done any acting in years though (unless you count in the bedroom), just kidding honey! (There’s my sarcastic sense of humor that sometimes, ok maybe a lot of times, I’m the only one who finds it funny). But I digress.
Ten years ago, when we found out that our first bundle of joy was on the way, the acting classes/auditions were put on hold in favor of the dream killing “stable job”. Call us quitters but the idea of being able to feed our child and provide the roof over her head was appealing (and Hollywood wasn’t exactly knocking down our door). I believe though that it’s never too late to go after your dreams. Anyway…I’ve been writing in a journal ever since I was little and I never really stopped writing. About two years ago while going through six months of chemo for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, I didn’t have the desire to do much other than try to Live! So writing kind of fell to the wayside. I was too tired and not in the mood. Then I met a fellow cancer patient who inspired me to start writing again. So I picked up my pen (or keyboard since I do a lot of my writing on the computer) and started to do one of the things I do best, put my feelings down on paper.
And Voila! This blog was born. So until I start going on those auditions again and take over the world, this blog is one of my creative outlets. I’ve had a love of entertainment ever since I can remember. Whether it was begging my parents to put me in dance school, putting on plays for my family behind the living room couch, singing in front of my mirror in my bedroom, dreaming of being an actor or writing a book about my cats on my typewriter or word processor (remember those?), I loved it all. Here’s a weird factoid, I’ve always liked typing, even as a kid I just thought it was fun. Ok, so I’m weird, but in a good way, not in a crazy you’d better cross the street when you see me kind of way. I’m much better at expressing my thoughts on paper than I am at expressing them verbally, so in a way writing has also been my therapy.
My humor tends to be sarcastic (as you’ve seen) so you might find some videos on here from time to time poking fun of things that I either find amusing or that drive me so crazy that I have to find the humor in it (like Congress not wanting to tax millionaires and billionaires but wanting to take away Social Security therefore hurting older Americans and people who live paycheck to paycheck…but once again, I digress).
I love to read and share new information. I’m typically reading two or more books at a time. Did I mention that I love to read? Thank God for the library. If I had to buy all of the books I wanted to read I would be broke or illiterate. So I’ll post info. that has either helped me or that I just think is really great and that I think you should know about! As I said before, I’m a three year cancer survivor and thriver (thank you for that term Olivia Newton-John) so I’ll post info. about my cancer experience. I’ll do my best not to do the whole preachy former cancer patient thing, but forgive me when I do, I just want us all to be happy and healthy! (Please take a moment now to hold hands with someone and sing “Kumbaya”). I’ll discuss how life is post-cancer and the things that have helped me to cope with having gone through that experience and the info. I’ve found to stay healthy and keep the odds in my favor!
Lastly I’m someone who has always fought for the underdog. I don’t like to see anyone being treated unfairly. So while I’m not a politically savvy person, I am interested in how politics affects our everyday lives, especially the lives of Americans who have less than others. At times I’ll talk about it. I know that my opinion is not the opinion of everyone and as I respect your opinion to disagree with me, please respect mine as well. We can still be friends and not agree on things. That’s what adults do, they talk things out and agree to disagree. Maybe Congress could learn something from us. Quick, let’s sing “Kumbaya” again!
I think that getting through life requires a sense of humor. I created this blog so that I can share my thoughts on life with hope, positivity, oh yeah and a whole lot of sarcasm. Hopefully information that I share or a video that I post will put a smile on your face or just make you think about things in a way that you hadn’t thought about them before! Thanks again for stopping by, come back soon!
